Lately I’ve been
having trouble sleeping
Watching late-night telly
trying to find something to occupy me

So I wrote this song about security guards that don’t care about the things they spend their lives defending are other people’s things that don’t need mending like their own they leave their crappy lives at home and sit behind a desk pretending if everything goes wrong they’ll play the hard man and then at least they’ll look quite brave when it all goes wrong

I fell asleep, but I woke up again
The pesky birds outside were singing
I picked up a pen

And I wrote this song about firemen that have no doubt that one day they’re gonna die in flames and in someone else’s house while their wives are safe at home and know nothing ‘til the phone awakes them, tells them that their husband’s died and he did it saving someone else’s lives and she thinks of all the lives he’s saved, and she resents them
